Myths and truths
Today I am going to discuss about Iso E super ,
I will also answer some of the most commonly asked questions about iso e super
What is iso e super.
Also known as patchouli ethanone
It is a woody base note molecule. It has
cedarwood like, ambery, dry woody odour profile.
It has a low odour impact, It will not impact the overall Odour profile of the perfume, So its transparent woody profile makes it less noticeable even if its used in heavy dosage.
What is the function of it in a perfume ?
Just like any other basenotes, it acts as a generic fixative.
So the other volatile molecules can float on it for a longer period of time.
It is diffusive, which means it creates the scent cloud around you but it will add its own nuances of dry woods.
Due to its transparency, it blends perfectly well with any other molecules and natural essential oils
What are isomers ?
Without going into the complex chemistry part of it,
Let’s assume that Iso E super has two arms, Known As isomers
One is arborone The other is gamma isomer
arborone isomer, is dry, dirty and more diffusive.
Gamma isomer, is more sophisticated, velvety, silky and smooth.
What are different types of iso e super ?
There are many variants of iso e super available to the perfumers.
Timbersilk
Sylvamber
Anthamber
Orbitone
Orbitone-T
ISO G SUPER
Timbersilk is a combination of iso e super and Super amber called amber xtreme, its more ambery and warmer than iso e super
Sylvamber has more arborone and less gamma isomers, so its more diffusive, noticeable and slightly dirty woody.
It lasts longer than any iso e super variants
Orbitone -T it has the highest gamma isomers, so it is the most sophisticated variant of iso e super.
ISO G SUPER is a captive molecule , which means it is only made for specific company.
The most commonly used Variant is iso e super which is the product of IFF.
5) What is the truth behind the Discussion that iso e super acts as a perfume primer ?
The most famous myth is : “It acts as a perfume primer” , “It acts as a perfume booster”
This is completely wrong, it does not act as perfume primer or it does not boost any perfume, the strength or the sillage of perfume totally depends on the structure of the formulation, adding more iso e super in a perfume will only dilute it.
Most of the perfumes in the market are filled with iso e super as a solvent due to its transparency and cost.
If you are good at blending, you can make perfumes even without Iso e super.
